Yellow weather alert for 12 regions of Portugal for wind, rain and snow

The weather is getting worse in Portugal and one will have to be careful in the coming days. Indeed, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), 12 districts of mainland Portugal will be on yellow alert this Wednesday because of the difficult weather conditions that will run until Saturday. Rain, wind and snow prompt the IPMA to set up the yellow alert level. What are the weather forecasts for the next few days in Portugal? Which regions are affected by this orange alert? 12 regions under yellow alert

 

Twelve districts of mainland Portugal will be on yellow alert this Thursday due to forecasts of heavy snowfall and precipitation, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA). This weather warning was issued this Wednesday morning by the institute which insists on the precautions to take.

 

According to the institute, the districts of Viseu and Vila Real will be under yellow alert between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. this Thursday due to the forecast of persistent and sometimes heavy rains.

The districts of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Braga will also be under yellow alert because of the rains (between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm Thursday), but also because of the dangerous swell and between 12:00 this Thursday and 6:00 this Saturday. Suffice to say that the coming days will be complicated weather level for these regions.

 

IPMA has also issued a yellow alert for the districts of Faro, Setúbal, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja and Coimbra, but only because of the heavy swell, with northwest waves of 4 to 5 meters. The weather alert will also last between 00:00 this Thursday and Saturday at 6am. Any outdoor activity is not recommended.

Snow and wind also arriving

 

Snow will also be there. Indeed, the districts of Castelo Branco and Guarda are also under yellow alert but due to snowfall. It is expected between 1 to 10 centimeters thick of snow in the 1000 to 1600 meters. The yellow alert is issued for the day Thursday between 3:00 a.m. and noon.

 

The yellow warning is the second-worst on a scale of four and is issued when weather conditions present a "risk for certain activities".
