5 DISTRICTS UNDER ORANGE ALERT
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), seven districts of mainland Portugal are on orange alert this Monday and Tuesday due to the forecast of strong maritime unrest.
The districts of Viana do Castelo, Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon will be on orange alert between 12:00 p.m. today and 6:00 a.m. Tuesday due to the forecast of waves reaching 9 to 10 meters.
These districts will then pass the yellow notice until 6:00 am Wednesday. The IPMA also placed the districts of Setúbal, Beja and Faro on yellow alert due to the waves from the northwest measuring 4 to 5 meters until 6:00 am Wednesday.
Also due to maritime unrest, the IPMA placed the north coast of Madeira Island and Porto Santo under yellow alert between 3 p.m. today and 9 a.m. Wednesday, forecasting waves from the northwest of 4 5 meters.
Be careful if you need to go outside
The central group of islands in the Azores archipelago (Terceira, Graciosa, Pico, Faial and São Jorge) are also on yellow alert due to the swell until noon today.
The orange alert indicates a moderate to high risk weather situation while the yellow alert indicates a hazardous situation for certain outdoor weather activities.
Due to heavy sea traffic, the ports of Caminha, Esposende, Figueira da Foz, Vila Praia de Âncora, Póvoa de Varzim, Vila do Conde and Ericeira are now closed to navigation.
According to the National Maritime Authority, the ports of Aveiro, Douro, Viana do Castelo and S. Martinho do Porto are now conditioned.
