For several years there has been a program to buy a house for 1 euro symbolic in Italy. The goal of this program is to renovate abandoned buildings in typical villages, and to repopulate areas that are increasingly deserted.

Many Italian villages have seen their population increase for the first time in a long time, and the renovation programs have brought work and investment to areas that need it. Each year, the list of Italian villages offering 1 euro houses is updated.

Here is the full list of villages where it is possible to acquire a house for € 1 in 2020:

  • Ollolai, Barbagia Mountains, in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia;

  • Borgomezzavalle Province of Verbania, Piedmont;

  • Fabbrica di Vergemoli Province of Lucca (Lucca) in Tuscany;

  • Sambuca di Sicilia Province of Agrigento in Sicily;

  • Regalbuto Province of Enna in Sicily;

  • Carrega Ligure Province of Alexandria in the Piedmont;

  • Montieri Grosseto Province in Tuscany;

  • Nulvi Province of Sassari in Sardinia;

  • Carrega Ligure Province of Alexandria in Piedmont;

  • Patrica Province of Frosinone in Lazio.

There are certain obligations to be observed when buying a 1 euro house in Italy. Indeed, the goal of the 1 euro houses program is to renovate and revitalize areas that are in great need. The buyer therefore agrees to renovate the property and set up the renovation project within 2 months of purchasing the property with a local architect. The renovation and the work must also be done in a given time, generally around 2 years, and with local service providers.

There are obviously additional costs when purchasing a 1 euro property. Among the costs to be incurred by buyers, in addition to the costs of renovation and architect, there are also the costs of notary and deed of deeds.
