From January 2020 until at least June, Lisbon's Humberto Delgado Airport will be limited due to the expansion that will result in its partial closure. As part of the development of the airport of the Portuguese capital and pending the new airport of Montijo, work will be undertaken to expand and improve. The closure will be complete during the night and will increase the available space. In total the works represent an investment of one billion euros, and some lines will simply disappear. What are the consequences of this closure? How long will the work last? Lisbob, the expatriate's assistant in Portugal, tells you all about the shutdown of Lisbon airport.

The end of the flight Lille - Lisbon

The closing of the Lisbon airport will take place every day between 23:30 and 06:00 from January to June of next year. These closing times will be used to carry out extension work on aircraft parking spaces and taxiways. This work is foreseen in the capacity building program of the airport of the Portuguese capital.

This change in opening hours is not without consequences. Indeed the director of EasyJet in Portugal, José Lopes, indicated that, for the low-cost British, the closing of the airport from 23:30 would involve the end of the link Lisbon-Lille, which operates on this time slot.

Some flights are simply cancelled during these works

€ 1 billion worth of work and delays in perspective

Other routes are being modified in the daylight hours at Humberto Delgado Airport and airlines are worried about delays in this reorganization.

The work at the Lisbon airport is part of the gigantic investment represented by the increase in the capacity of Lisbon's airports, which includes renovations in the current area, valued at around 650 million euros. The construction of the Montijo air base is estimated at 450 millions euros. This second airport, which has been waiting for decades, still has not seen these works start.
