5.2 magnitude earthquake off Peniche in Portugal : shocks felt up to Lisbon
An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was recorded off Peniche this Thursday, November 1, 2018. The earthquake was felt in the municipality of Figueira da Foz and in several localities of the districts of Porto, Braga , Coimbra, Leiria and even Lisbon. This earthquake did not cause any personal or material damage and was felt with the maximum intensity III / IV (modified Mercalli scale) in the municipality of Figueira da Foz and intensity III in several districts of Braga, Oporto, Coimbra, Leiria and Lisbon.
Fernando Carrilho, head of the geophysics department of IPMA (the Portuguese Institute for the Sea and the Atmosphere), explains that the shock had no consequence, as the epicenter was far from the coast.
